I was a student and member of the clubs
original (then USCF Cat 4 racing team) be-
tween ’82-’86. Was curious of the clubs
original founder (Dr. Jesse Benford). Hope
I spelled his name correctly? Wonder if any-
one had even heard of him? Any info on his
retirement (or passing) would be appreciated!.

Sidewalks may seem warm and cozy, but they are death traps in disguise. You really have to be careful at driveways and side streets. Drivers aren’t paying attention to sidewalk traffic. And it’s especially dangerous to go against traffic on the sidewalk because people coming out of driveways are always looking to the left first, at the same time absent mindedly pulling out past the sidewalk!

Now that I have been riding more, particularly in bike lanes as I try to leave the warm cozy nest of the side walk, I see the value in a clean, debris free bike lane and was really pleased to help clean them out and do my part.

Community Service can actually be fun when your in good company and working to improve something that you yourself use! Thanks guys!!

Thanks! The weather that day made a drastic change for Florida standards and was so COLD! The ride had very low attendance…Two people. But we road proudly and lawfully through the streets. We’re hoping to plan more of these and that people will catch on and join us.

I’m intrigued by this trailer you speak of. Is it a bicycle attachment, or something separate? Any idea where I could find more about something like this?

Great idea, and I’d like to see more cleanups and bike lane adoptions. I bought an old trailer, a Hoover manual sidewalk sweeper, and do the same for bike lanes near my house. A monthly sweep would be great, but why not more actions like you guys took. I’ve done Ehrlich Road between Anderson and the Vets several times on my own, on my bike with trailer, and picked up several bags of stuff each time. The well-used lanes on Linebaugh that run from Dale Mabry to Tampa Road in Pinellas County would be a great target for adoption, especially those lengths a mile on either side of the landfill transfer station.

What I like about this is that instead of merely bitching (and fixing flats) get out there and do a little work for yourself and fellow cyclists! Yes!

I have always prefered bikes over vehicles, because it’s nature friendly and safe plus it’s a good exercise. Look at the people in Japan, China and Korea..
I think it is a great idea to be like them, more bikes on the road less accidents..
