The Pinellas Trail was packed full of cyclists enjoying the amazing spring weather. The USF Bicycle Club planned a bike trip to the Blue Jays & Braves spring training game at Dunedin Stadium on Sunday, March 14th. Dunedin Stadium is ranked by Sports Illustrated as one of the top five facilities to watch a Major League Baseball Spring Training game. After a 3.4 mile bike ride along the Pinellas Trail (we checked the distance later with the new Google Maps bicycling option), we pulled up to the Dunedin Stadium. Beautiful stadium, but where was the bicycle parking? We saw 30-40 bicycles locked up to the stadium fence but there were no signs of bicycle racks. We finally found a wheel bender bicycle rack that was blocked by an ambulance, fence parking it was! The game was amazing even though the Jays lost. Blue Jays are the sleeper team for the American League East, but they are still in the toughest division in baseball: Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles and eh- hem the Rays. After the game, the USFBC took the Pinellas Trail back to our destination. Along the trail we passed by a restaurant that seemed to cater to bicyclists (see photo), and why not, it’s on the bicycle trail. We didn’t stop in the restaurant, but the USFBC is making plans for another ride out to this particular establishment that obviously supports outdoor activities/biking.
